Setting up for Summer

Summer is on it’s way (although if you live in London it feels slightly closer to Winter again) and I’ve been loving a few new products to get my skin prepped and ready for the warmer weather. For me, Summer is all about dewy, glowing skin, and that means bringing the moisture and staving off dry, uneven skin.
To give my skin a boost of moisture I use the Dr. Organic Manuka Honey Face Mask (you can check out a full review here), which never fails to leave my skin feeling plumped and softened. Manuka honey is a great natural moisturiser, restoring dry or damaged skin while boosting cell renewal. If you’re suffering from a breakout, this will also help disinfect and soothe the skin.

After washing off my mask, I like to spritz my face with the Avene Eau Thermale Spring Water. This hydrates and calms the skin and is a much more gentle choice if your usual toner has alcohol, perfumes or preservatives in it. I also keep a smaller can in my handbag for when my skin is feeling a little lacklustre. It’s great to whip out when your skin is feeling tight from central heating, musty from the tube, or damaged from the sun.

I have recently been absolutely loving the Avene Soothing Hydrating Serum (see how I use this and the Spring Water in my daily routine here). I apply this every morning and evening before my usual moisturiser and it gives me an extra boost of hydration that stays throughout the day. With the change of weather, my skin can become sensitive and prone to dry patches and flaking, so I’ve added this little gem into my skincare routine and my skin has been looking and feeling a lot more even and reenergised.

Coming into Spring means ditching the heavier foundations and sticking with sheerer ones. I’ve been hooked on the Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse BB Cream for some time now and know it will be my base of choice for Summer 2014. It’s sheer enough to keep your skin peeking through, giving a more natural look while having the power to cover up any imperfections. How does it do it? I honestly don’t know. Dr. Jart+ has a range of different formulas, but the Water Fuse is great for us oilier skinned gals and topped with a dusting of translucent powder, this BB has the best staying power I’ve found.

We all know about the Maybelline Colour Tattoos, but I’ve picked up a shade slightly less than usual, especially for me (I do love my neutrals). Metallic Pomegranate is a beautiful muted red-undertones purple with a metallic shimmer. It looks fantastic with an otherwise neutral face and if swept on by itself, gives a simplistic modern look. If you’re looking to add a pop of colour this Summer but are weary of branching out into the full on pastels, this may be the one for you.

This Spring L’Oreal have launched their L’Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick range. I’m not much of a lipgloss wearer and love a good matte lipstick, but when I saw how pigmented these were and being a gloss / stick hybrid, I delved in. I have been wearing the shade Molto Mauve and am hooked. They look great layered with a lipstick for a deeper, bolder look or by themselves for a more subtle, daytime look. They feel great on the lips (none of that gooey, sticky feeling) and have pretty good staying power. The applicator is great, too. It’s a teardrop shape so you can easily sweep the gloss on in a hurry or use to tip to carefully outline the lip.
